Autumn Fiester Wins Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching

Congratulations to our department's Autumn Fiester, PhD, for winning a Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching.

"This is fitting recognition of Autumn’s accomplishments as an exceptionally talented, admired, and impactful teacher of bioethics, a national leader in ethics education, and a builder of our world-leading Master’s in Bioethics program," Steve Joffe said.

Some of Dr. Fiester's former students shared their praise on Twitter, including Sonia Sethi, who wrote: "Congrats to Dr. Autumn Fiester, one of my favorite professors! Her engaging teaching style, welcoming personality, and ability to clarify difficult concepts have been vital in shaping my ethical reasoning and overall wonderful experience at @PennMEHP." Nia Johnson shared: "I am so happy to see the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching given to Autumn Fiester of @PennMEHP. I was such a nervous MBE student as a Black woman. She not only refined my ideas, but she helped me feel welcome and included."

The University of Pennsylvania typically doles out 8 Lindback awards each year to health-related disciplines and all other departments/divisions. "Award winners are determined by nominations and recommendations made by faculty and students in December based on certain guidelines. Two separate committees, one in the health schools and one in the non-health schools consisting of six previous award winners and four students, carefully decide among the nominees," according to the University's Penn Notables page.
