Emily Largent and Holly Fernandez Lynch, along with co-author Andrew Peterson (George Mason Univeristy) published a new paper out today in JAMA Internal Medicine: "FDA Drug Approval and the Ethics of Desperation."
Their paper asks how much should patients' willingness to try drugs with unproven benefit impact the FDA approval process? In the viewpoint, they set out to argue "that patient voices should be integrated into the drug approval process, but without such deference that the FDAabdicates its responsibility to ensure drugs are safeand effective."
