Exploring Clinical Ethics Cases from the Addiction Consult Team (ACT) Can we require patients to start addiction treatment before offering life-saving surgery? What do we do when patients are suspected of using drugs in the hospital? Do patients in severe withdrawal have the capacity to decide to leave before receiving treatment for life-threatening infections? Addiction Consult Team (ACT) Director Dr. Sam Huo with addiction specialist and bioethicist Dr. Bridget Durkin will explore the ethical questions that arise while treating patients with substance use disorders through the lens of patient cases. These challenges are based in the work of the Addiction Consult Team (ACT) at Penn Presbyterian, the first dedicated treatment team for hospitalized patients with substance use disorders in the Penn system.
