"Fatality in the Context of Intimate Partner Violence" Fatality in the Context of Intimate Partner Violence   Millan AbiNader, LMSW, PhD Assistant Professor, Social Work & Social Policy School of Social Policy and Practice, University of Pennsylvania Based on U.S. national data, 9.5% of violent deaths occur in the context of intimate partner violence: 16.3% of homicides, 10.1% of legal-intervention deaths, and 7.1% of suicides. These data suggest that there may have been opportunities prior to the fatality where interventions were missed or ineffective. Dr. AbiNader will present on her fatality research, highlighting a case-control intimate partner violence-related homicide study. Using this transdisciplinary study as a springboard, Dr. AbiNader will present the logistical and ethical challenges faced by the research team while conducting such research in order to facilitate a discussion on the ethical tensions of conducting gender-based violence research.
