Jennifer J. Prah is the Amartya Sen Professor of Health Equity, Economics, and Policy in the School of Social Policy and Practice (SP2), where she previously served as SP2’s inaugural Associate Dean for Global Studies, and Professor of Medical Ethics & Health Policy in the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. She is the Founder and Director of the Health Equity and Policy Lab (HEPL), the Director of the Ortner Center on Violence and Abuse, Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics (LDI), Senior Fellow at the Center for Public Health, Chair of Faculty Fellows at the Center for High Impact Philanthropy (CHIP) and former Chair of the Social Responsibility Advisory Committee (SRAC), all at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Prah is an internationally recognized leader in global and domestic health equity, she works at the intersection of economics, ethics, policy and health. Dr. Prah conducts collaborative research around the globe, including in Ghana, Malawi, Malaysia, Morocco, South Korea, South Africa, Vietnam, India, and Indonesia. She was a member of the Institute of Medicine (IOM)’s Board on Global Health and Committee on the Outcome and Impact Evaluation of Global HIV/AIDS Programs Implemented Under The Lantos-Hyde Act of 2008, of the Ethics Subcommittee, Advisory Committee to the Director (ACD), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and of the Fulbright National Screening Committee, Fulbright Public Policy Fellowships, U.S. Department of State, Institute of International Education (IIE). She was speechwriter to the President of the World Bank and served as satellite secretariat, co-organizer and co-rapporteur, health and development satellite, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Transition Team.
Dr. Prah received a Hastings Center Fellowship, Guggenheim Fellowship, Greenwall Faculty Scholar Award in Bioethics, Donaghue Investigator Award, NIH Research Scientist Development Award, NIH Pre-Doctoral Trainee Fellowship, Harvard University, and Oscar Geballe Postgraduate Scholarship, University of California-Berkeley. She is an elected life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Her educational background includes a Master of Studies in Law (MSL) from Yale University, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Harvard University, and a Master of Science (MSc) from Oxford University.
