Alon Bergman, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Medical Ethics and Health Policy. He also has a secondary appointment as Assistant Professor of Health Care Management in the Wharton School.
Dr. Bergman uses state-of-the-art theoretical and empirical methods to study how consumers, workers, firms, and regulators interact in health care markets. He specializes in forming research partnerships with payors and health care provider organizations to conduct policy-relevant research. His work to date has broadly focused on three research areas: (1) the behavior and decision making of medical care providers, (2) the adoption of medical technology and devices, and (3) the provision of medical services to patient populations.
Dr. Bergman’s work has been published in journals including Health Affairs, Health Services Research, the American Journal of Managed Care, and Medical Care Research and Review, and his studies have received media coverage from Forbes, Politico, STAT News, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Quartz Magazine, Kaiser Health News, and Medical Device Network, among other outlets. Alon also teaches a Wharton MBA course on Strategy and Management in Medical Devices and Technology.
Dr. Bergman received his doctoral degree in Economics from the University of Rochester and completed his postdoctoral training in The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a recipient of the Agency of Health Care Research and Quality Training Award (2019-2022).
