Louiza Kalokairinou received her PhD in Biomedical Ethics and Law from KU Leuven in 2018. Her dissertation explored the ethical and regulatory challenges of direct-to-consumer genetic testing in the European context. From 2016 through 2019, she worked as a Policy Officer in the Research Ethics and Integrity Sector of the European Commission (Directorate General for Research and Innovation), where she was involved in the development of research ethics policies and the coordination of the ethics evaluation of EU-funded research projects.
As a Postdoctoral Fellow and a member of Dr. Anna Wexler’s lab, Louiza researched the ethical, legal and social aspects of direct-to-consumer and do-it-yourself medicine, focusing on neurotechnology. In her work, she employs sociological methods and legal frameworks, being particularly interested in the intersection of policy, law and emerging technologies.
