Dr. Zeke Emanuel Wins 2020 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation David E. Rogers Award

Congratulations to our department’s Zeke Emanuel, MD, PhD, who has won the 2020 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation David E. Rogers Award, which is jointly sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

“Few physicians have had as demonstrable an effect on improving the health of Americans in the 21st century as Ezekiel J. Emanuel, MD, PhD, vice provost for global initiatives at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania,” wrote AAMC.

This award honors a medical school faculty member who has made major contributions to improving public health and health care.

“This honor is fantastic because it’s a recognition by my peers of the contributions I’ve made to improving American health care,” Dr. Emanuel said.

In his acceptance video, Dr. Emanuel noted that one of the most rewarding aspects of his career was the passage of the Affordable Care Act. He said he still gets stopped by people, who thank him for helping their family members get insurance and the health care services they need.

“That is incredibly moving when it happens,” he said.
