Dr. Mueller is an Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine in the Division of Translational Research and Human Genetics. She also serves as the Director of Research in the Master of Science Genetic Counseling Program at Penn. She is a qualitative researcher, historian of medicine, and a licensed genetic counselor focusing on the ethical, social, and legal implications of genomics. Her work uses a disability lens to explore the ethical and social implications of prognostic uncertainty in genetics by focusing on the experiences of adults with childhood-onset genetic conditions that have shifting prognostic implications. Dr. Mueller also promotes the incorporation of disability perspectives into medical education and genetics research via conceptual work and service in several genetics professional organizations. Her work has been published in the Journal of Genetic Counseling, the Annual Review of Genomics and Human Genetics, and The American Journal of Bioethics.
She received her Ph.D. from in the History and Sociology of Science at the University of Pennsylvania where she also completed a T32 postdoctoral fellowship in the Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications of Genetics. Dr. Mueller completed her master’s degree in genetic counseling at Arcadia University and served as a cancer genetic counselor facilitating the development of alternative service delivery models before and during her doctoral work.
